Museumnacht Maastricht
No single edition of Museumnacht Maastricht is ever the same, but that's definitely the case for Museumnacht Maastricht's Art Appetizer on Friday 22 October 2021. Although we don't know precisely how intimate or grand it will be or how we will be tickling and teasing everyone's taste buds, we can promise you one thing: we will be there! As always, expect nothing but be prepared for everything on Friday 22 October 2021! Together with Maastricht’s renowned art venues, various cultural partners, established artists, local talents, and volunteers we will bring the intimacy of the physical world of art back to life with a once-in-a-night-time programme.
It’s a Small World, After All
In 2019, Janne’s created ‘Lost in Space’ collective identity inspired the venues to present some far-out shows that took you on a metaphorical journey to the stars. In contrast, the 2021 edition will bring things back down to earth and closer to home and each other. Visitors can look forward to an evening where they can discover and explore their thoughts on and feelings about art and current themes such as identity, change, and intimacy. The unknown COVID-19 reality and 1.5m social distancing guidelines ensure that 'Subject to Change' is today's rule rather than tomorrow's exception. However, one fact remains unchanged; Museumnacht Maastricht is not afraid to think outside the box, break the rules and experiment. Instead of focusing solely on what is (not) possible, feasible, desirable or normal, Museumnacht Maastricht embraces the unknown and dares to let go of tradition! Once stripped of the extra comfort of hop-on-hop-off buses, print work, advertisements and a ticket-for-everything-system, Museumnacht Maastricht goes back-to-basics to provide the art scene and local talent all the support, freedom and space necessary to join the spotlight on Friday 22 October 2021.
Beyond the Night Itself
After four amazing editions, Jump the Gap is proud to contribute and be part of the Museumnacht Maastricht family. What started as a night-time adventure featuring ten different venues in 2016 has grown into a widely praised, annual artistic phenomenon to colour and connect the city and its people in a memorable way. And not just for one evening. One of the main aims behind Janne’s vision, extensive work and investments for Museumnacht Maastricht is to further develop the creative ecosystem that shapes not only Museumnacht Maastricht but the city and its art scene as well. Janne Baetsen: “I just want to make sure that the love, energy and time spend by all those involved will exist beyond the night itself.”
“In a world where it seems like we prefer to build walls, the 2021-edition will focus on what Museumnacht Maastricht represents: the universal language and power of art to connect people. Art can embody a protest, voice, or reaction to these turbulent times. Art can communicate that we don’t need to fear change, the unknown, or others. I believe this message is needed now more than ever.”
